Glaciers do melt, and stars eventually fade. Sadly, neither can control how the passage of time behaves. Time makes those two things imperfect. Just like how our flesh and bones are not made of steel. But those vulnerabilities and imperfections are only a small part of what's real. Their true purpose is not with death. It is to bring the best out of us in life. Like strength displayed by a star's vibrant glow, that illuminates the night. Or the resilient foundation of a glacier, that can provide a home to someone lost at sea. For the star, glacier, and my father the vulnerabilities are not how they are recognized to be. It is the toughness and beauty that comes as a result, which everyone knows is the deal. Because that is what gives my father, and those like him, the ability to positively affect how people feel.
